Tiare Thompson

At only 17 years of age, Tiare has accomplished so much in her surfing career. Tiare was born in La Jolla, California and she is being raised in the community of Bird Rock in La Jolla. Tiare enjoys surfing everyday at a world renowned reef break known as WindanSea Beach and a number of other great surfing spots right in her backyard. Tiare competitively surfs in the World Surf League Womens Qualifying Series & Junior Womens Tour (national and international events), USA Surfing America Prime, and Rip Curl GromSearch.

2016/2017 Tiare earned a California State Title in the SSS (Scholastic Surf Series) High School short board division.

2015/2016 Tiare earned two California state titles. One in the SSS high school level Open Women’s Short Board and one in the NSSA Open Women’s Short Board.

2014/2015 Tiare earned 1st place SSS “Scholastic Surf Series” (middle school) Girls shordboard and 2nd place Girls longboard. 2nd Place NSSA Open State Championships.

She earned 4 California State Titles in the 2013/2014 season. 1 in the SSS “Scholastic Surf Series” (middle school) Girls short board, 1 in the WSA “Western Surf Association”, girls under the age 16 short board, NSSA “National Scholastic Surf Association”, Explorer girls 14 and under, short board,and 1 in the NSSA Open Girls, 14 and under short board.

She has been chosen by the USA Surf Team to represent the United States every year since 2014! Tiare was chosen to represent the USA in the ISA (International Surfing Association) Junior Championships in Oceanside, California, October 2015. The USA Surf Team won the event with a team Gold Medal for the first time in 33 years of ISA competition.

Tiare is currently 1 of 4 Jr. Women to represent the USA in the under 18 division as of 2017-2018.
Tiare will represent USA in the PAN America games in Peru, Dec 2-9 2018

Years surfing: 13 years. She caught her first wave when she was just shy of the age of five at Kiddieland on the island of Tavarua in Fiji!
Years in competitive surfing: Tiare has been surfing competitively since the fall of 2007. She competes in a number of local surf club events and she has surfed in a more competitive arena in the WSL Women’s Qualifying Series, WSL Junior Pro Tour & Surfing America Prime.

  • 2016-2017 Season: finished the season ranked 3rd out of 20 surfers in the Girls U16 division and 4th out of 29 surfers in the Girls U18 division. Qualified for Nationals in the U18 and U16 Girls divisions.
  • 2011-2012 Season: finished the season ranked 7th out of 20 surfers in the Girls U16 division which qualified her for an invitation to the Surfing America USA Championships in June 2012 in three divisions Girls U16, U14 and U12. She competed in all three divisions. Tiare was the youngest girl competing in the Prime events at ages 10-11.
  • 2010-2011 Season: invited to compete in 2 of the 6 events at the age of 10 with 18 other surfers in the Girls U16 division.

  • 2011-2012 Southwest Open Women’s Season: finished the season ranked 10th out of 18 surfers in the Women’s division after surfing in only 5 of the 10 event season. Tiare was the youngest girl competing in this division while she was 10-11.
  • 2012 West Coast Championships : Tiare qualified and competed in the Open Girls, Explorer Girls, Explorer Women’s divisions. Tiare made it to the finals in all three divisions finishing with a 4th in Open Girls, 6th in Explorer Girls and a 6th in Explorer Women’s divisions at the age of 11 (she was the youngest competitor in these divisions).
  • 2011 West Coast Championships-Explorer: 3rd Place finish in the Girls 14 and under division at Huntington Beach (May 2011)
  • Competitor in 2011 Nationals: competed in her first NSSA Nationals event at the age of 10 in June of 2011.
  • 2010-2011 Southwest Explorer Girls Season: 3rd Place final ranking out of 11 surfers in the Girls U14 Conference with 1- 1st place finish, 2- 2nd place finishes and 3- 3rd place finishes.
  • 2009-2010 Southwest Explorer Season: 8th Place final ranking out of 17 surfers in the Girls 14 and under Conference at ages 8-9.

Western Surfing Association- WSA:

  • 2011-2012 Girls U12 Season: finished the season ranked 2nd out of 16 surfers through a 10 event conference. Tiare finished the conference with 5- 1st place finishes, 2 – 2nd place finishes and a 2nd place at the West Coast Championships.
  • 2011-2012 Girls U14 Season: finished the season ranked 4th out of 23 surfers through a 10 event conference. She has only competed in 8 of the 10 events this season with top finishes of 1 – 1st place finish and 3 – 3rd place finishes.
  • 2011 West Coast Champion Girls U12 & Conference Title Winner for the 2010-2011 Season: 1st place at the WSA – West Coast Championships at Churches on May 15, 2011 at the age of 10. Tiare finished the conference in 1st with the most points overall in 9 events with 2 – 1st place finishes, 5 – 2nd place finishes and 2 – 3rd place finishes.
  • 2010-2011 Girls U14 Conference: 4th Place final ranking for the conference with 3 – 2nd place finishes and 3 – 3rd place finishes in the 9 event conference. Qualified for the limited slots for the Quiksilver 2011 Surfing America USA Championships at Lower Trestles in 6/2011.
  • Competitor in 2011 Quiksilver USA Championships at Lower Trestles: Qualified & competed in U12 & U14 Divisions in June 2011 with a 3rd in Round 1 in the Girls U14 and a 3rd in the Semi-Finals in the Girls U12 at the age of 10 (the youngest competitor at the event).
  • 2010 West Coast Championships: 4th place finish in the Girls U12 division at the age of 9.
  • 2009-2010 Girls SB U12 Conference: 3rd Place final ranking for conference at the age of 8-9. Top finishes with 2 – 1st place finishes, and 3 – 2nd place finishes.
  • 2009-2010 Boys/Girls SB U10 Conference: 9th Place final ranking in the nine event conference.
